Volunteer Opportunity - Little Rock National Cemetary Sat 12/17/22 - Wreaths Across America

Updated: Jul 25, 2023

This Saturday, December 17th, 2022 Arkansans will be laying wreaths at the Little Rock National Cemetary. This event is sponsored by Wreaths Across America:

2022 Little Rock National Cemetery Information

The ceremony at Little Rock National Cemetery will begin at 11 AM with wreath placement following the ceremony. With more than 9,000 wreaths scheduled for Little Rock National Cemetery, we will need volunteers that morning who are able to help with unloading the trucks and staging in the cemetery. For those who are able to help with unloading, please read carefully.

1. Volunteers should arrive at 0800. The cemetery address is 2523 Springer Blvd. Parking will be available in the Uhaul lot at the end of E 26th St. After the trucks arrive, parking will still be available in this lot, however, EXTREME caution needs to be taken as there will be wreaths being transported into the cemetery and lots of people will be walking around.

2. Flag Line briefing will be at 0815. During this briefing, the Patriot Guard riders will give you information about how to participate in the flag line and welcome the wreaths as they arrive

3. Trucks should arrive at 0830. They will enter through the flag line and will park. At this point, we will need volunteers both at the trucks to unload and in the cemetery to unpack boxes and stage the wreaths.

4. There will be a representative in each section to count the boxes. Once the exact number of boxes are received, the representative will direct volunteers to unpack the boxes, break them down for disposal, and stage the wreaths along the curb.

5. Once all wreaths are staged, please return to the unloading area for the 11 AM ceremony.

After the ceremony volunteers will lay the wreaths at Little Rock National Cemetary.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is to Remember the Fallen, Honor those who served and Teach our children the value of freedom and is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday in December at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans' cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.

Wreaths Across America began in 1992 as an initiative to bring wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. In 2006, in response to thousands of e-mails and letters, Worcester Wreath expanded its wreath donations nationwide. With the help of local communities, ceremonies are now held all across the country. Our goal is to see every single veteran buried at an Arkansas Veterans cemetery honored, but it is going to take a commitment by many Arkansans to make this happen.

Wreaths Across America gives the community a chance to come together to recognize the sacrifice made by so many for our freedoms. We hope that you will be able to join us to make this event successful.
