At King Ryan Radio, one of our biggest passions is giving back to our communities. It's been a while since we gave a shout-out to an "All-Star Organization" that does just that! Warrick Dunn Charities - Homes for the Holidays is an excellent organization with a vision for helping community members in need and essentially strengthening the communities around them while fulfilling their mission. Homes for the Holidays surprises single-parent families (who are actively working to support themselves) with home furnishings and down payment assistance helping make a house a HOME!
Homes for the Holidays was created because housing is the key to reducing generational poverty and increasing economic mobility. Moreover, according to research completed by Stanford, children living in stable, affordable homes are more likely to thrive in school and have greater opportunities to learn inside and outside the classroom.
"I can’t say enough how the stability has helped me provide for me and my 3 daughters. Being able to give them a home to call their own is everything to me. I was able to show them that they can have anything in life that they want as long as they work hard for it.” – Kevin Hargrove, #122
HOW Homes for the Holidays DOES IT:
HFTH receives donations year-round from our partners and donors like you who want to support our mission of providing hope for single-parent families in need. HFTH works with local, affordable housing providers to select a single-parent family who is purchasing their first home. HFTH does not supply the new home, but we help supply the new home’s furnishings. With the assistance of volunteers, HFTH furnishes and decorates every room, stocks the pantry with food, and provides a downpayment assistance check as a surprise for the new homeowner.
If Homes for the Holidays sounds like something that you want to be a part of, you can either donate or get involved. I usually volunteer my time because like most of you guys, my pockets aren't deep. Wouldn't it be awesome knowing you helped a single parent provide a home where their children can thrive?
Over the last 25 years, Homes for the Holidays has served 218 families across 16 states!
