Democrats Saving Arkansans: Investing in Infrastructure and Beyond

Updated: Jul 27, 2023

As an Arkansas native, I can't help but marvel at the irony of the situation: Arkansans consistently elect Republican officials to represent them, yet it is the Democrats at the national level who are actively working to improve their lives. From investing in infrastructure projects through the RAISE program to providing funds for high-speed internet, the Biden-Harris administration is making a significant impact on the state's development. In this article, we'll delve into the initiatives undertaken by Democrats and explore the positive changes they are bringing to Arkansas.

Help Democrats Save Arkansas: Vote!

The Power of the RAISE Program

One of the key initiatives that the Biden-Harris administration is championing is the RAISE program (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity). This program aims to revitalize infrastructure across the country, including in Arkansas. Through the RAISE program, Arkansas is slated to receive more than $48 million for various infrastructure projects.

Old Stagecoach Road Complete Streets Connector

One of the projects that will greatly benefit from the RAISE program is the Old Stagecoach Road Complete Streets Connector. This project focuses on the reconstruction of approximately 3.6 miles of Old Stagecoach Road (Highway 5) in Little Rock. The funds allocated for this project, amounting to a staggering $25,000,000, will not only improve the road infrastructure but also create a shared-use path, add continuous sidewalks, make storm drainage improvements, and complete utility work. These enhancements will undoubtedly contribute to safer and more efficient transportation, allowing residents to access economic opportunities in Little Rock more easily.

Russellville Connected Trail System

Another exciting project made possible by the RAISE program is the development of the Russellville Connected Trail System. With an allocation of $23,752,759, this project aims to construct approximately 13 miles of new active transportation infrastructure. The trail system will consist of 10-foot multi-use trails and 10-foot side paths, improving access to jobs, healthcare facilities, schools, Arkansas Tech University, shopping centers, and recreational areas in Russellville. The investment in this trail system will not only enhance connectivity within the city but also promote a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle for its residents.

This is great news for Russellville. Our Russellville connected trail system is already amazing, this will only strengthen our trail system. The City Of Russellville is committed to building quality of life and quality of place for our citizens. Thank you to all of those who made this grant possible.

Democrat-Driven Benefits

It's important to recognize the positive impact these infrastructure investments have on Arkansas, especially considering the state's preference for Republican officials. The federal funds flowing into Arkansas through programs like the RAISE program and the American Rescue Plan are providing much-needed support and opportunities that would otherwise be absent.

Democrat-Republican Collaboration

Vote for Democrats

While the Democrats are leading the charge in securing these investments for Arkansas, it's important to note the collaboration between Democrats and Republicans in the state. Senator John Boozman and Senator Tom Cotton, both Republicans, have expressed pride and gratitude for the infrastructure projects funded by the Department of Transportation. Senator Boozman recognizes the importance of transportation infrastructure in economic development and improving the standard of living for Arkansans. John Boozman and Tom Cotton both voted against the RAISE Act and the American Rescue Plan, indicating that this collaboration is solely verbal and does not extend to their actions.

Democrats Creating Job Opportunities

The RAISE program, with its focus on sustainability and equity, is not only improving infrastructure but also creating job opportunities. Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. Transportation Secretary, highlights how these projects are generating good-paying jobs, benefiting both rural and urban communities. The investments in infrastructure not only improve safety and fight climate change but also strengthen the supply chain and advance equity. This multifaceted approach ensures that the benefits of these projects are far-reaching and inclusive.

We’re delivering for Arkansas:
Reconstructing miles of highway in Bryant which will reduce congestion and make it safer for pedestrians & bicyclists.
And in Russellville, adding 13 miles of multi-use trails - connecting the trail system to downtown.

Beyond Infrastructure: Broadband and American Rescue Plan

Democrats help Arkansas

While the RAISE program is a significant driver of progress in Arkansas, Democrats are also addressing other pressing needs of the state. Recognizing the importance of connectivity in today's digital age, the Biden-Harris administration is allocating $1 billion for the expansion of high-speed internet in Arkansas. This investment will bridge the digital divide, ensuring that even rural areas have access to reliable and fast internet connections. The impact of this initiative will be felt in education, healthcare, business, and overall quality of life for Arkansans.

American Rescue Plan: A Lifeline for Arkansas

The American Rescue Plan of 2021 is another testament to the Democrats' commitment to supporting Arkansans. This plan provides unprecedented federal aid to state and local governments, schools, universities, and colleges. Arkansas is set to receive billions of dollars through this plan, with the state government receiving $1.57 billion, the counties receiving $586 million, and the cities receiving approximately $425 million. These funds will aid in recovering from the financial blow caused by the pandemic, improving social services, and enhancing health in communities impacted by the virus.

Democrat's Response to the Pandemic

The American Rescue Plan also enables Arkansas to better prepare for future pandemics. The funds can be utilized to purchase medical supplies and equipment, train healthcare professionals, and invest in necessary improvements to water, sewer, and broadband infrastructure. This proactive approach demonstrates the Democrats' commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Arkansans and ensuring the state is better equipped to handle any future crises.

Conclusion

Vote for Democrats

While it may seem counterintuitive that Arkansans elect Republican officials yet rely on Democrats at the national level, the truth is that Democrats are actively working to improve the lives of all Arkansans. Through initiatives like the RAISE program, the expansion of high-speed internet, and the American Rescue Plan, Democrats are investing in infrastructure, creating job opportunities, and addressing pressing needs. It is through this commitment to progress and development that Arkansans are benefitting, regardless of their political affiliations. As an Arkansan myself, I am grateful for the efforts of Democrats in making a positive difference in our state's future. I believe we should work to elect more Democrats in Arkansas to get even more done for Arkansans.

It is so nice to see an article written that addresses my inner thoughts so well. haha Cotton and Boozman definitely got under my skin when I saw them basically taking credit for the grant when it was the people in the Planning and Development Department (as well as others) that worked so hard to get it. Especially when our representatives voted NO on the infrastructure bill. Keep it up! Great content!

Great article! It would be nice if Arkansans realized how counterproductive a vote for Republicans is. “When will they ever learn?”
